A Copilot Notebook is a workspace with a closed set of references: files, pages, meeting notes you add. Copilot is supposed to answer from that set, not from your entire Graph. That is the opposite of Work IQ on in an unbounded Chat.
Scoped is the point. A SharePoint dump is not a notebook.
Personal Brain is three short files you attach or give an agent. A Notebook is a project room. Do not paste your whole team site in. Three to seven references that a contractor would need for this project. If Notebooks are not on your tenant, skip the click-path and write the reference list anyway. You can attach that list in Chat until IT turns the surface on.
Core principles
- Notebook: this project, these sources, nothing else.
- Work IQ Chat: whatever you can already open. Easy to overshare.
- Personal Brain: standing files about you and one project pack. Input, not the room.
- More files is not more intelligence. Irrelevant files poison the room.

Design the notebook before you fill it
I am scoping a Copilot Notebook (or a fallback Chat with attachments) for: [FIVE-WORD PROJECT]. Here is everything I could add: [LIST FILES / PAGES / MEETINGS]. Cut this to 3–7 references a contractor would need. For each, one line on why it stays. Name two items to leave out and why they would poison the room. Do not tell me to add the whole SharePoint library.
