Open Copilot Chat history for the last five working days. You do not need a CSV. Titles, timestamps, and what you remember shipping are enough.
Evidence before advice.
Note the apps: Chat, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams. People often “use Copilot a lot” in one surface and never in the one that would ship the work.
If IT has a usage report, use it as a second lens — not as a grade.
Core principles
- Inventory by task type, not by vibe: email, decks, analysis, meeting recap, coding, other.
- Write down which Copilot surface you used. Wrong surface is a common spin source.
- Flag anything you cannot remember. Forgotten chats are often spin.
- Do not include confidential thread content in the prompt — describe the job, not the customer.
Check yourself
What should an honest usage inventory include?
Admin dashboards help later. The first audit is whether you can name the work and whether it left the chat.
Do this in Copilot
Make a five-line inventory: day, task type, Copilot surface, shipped yes/no, notes.
Describe jobs, not client names. Keep the table for the rest of the course.
Build the inventory table
Turn my rough Copilot week into a table. Columns: day, task type, Copilot surface (Chat / Word / PowerPoint / Excel / Teams / other), shipped (Y/N/unclear), one-line note. Here is what I remember or copied from history (no confidential content): [PASTE INVENTORY]. After the table, tell me which row is thinnest evidence and what I should look up in history before Lesson 3.
Did you run this in Copilot? Mark complete when you have tried it.
