Teams Copilot can recap a meeting, list action items, and answer "what did X say about Y?" only if transcription was on. Without it, Copilot sees the chat thread, not the room. Sidebars, hallway follow-ups, and anything after you leave are invisible.
No transcript, no spoken content. Recap is not minutes.
A recap that names owners and deadlines will still invent them. Treat it as a first pass you check against what you heard.
Core principles
- Transcription off: you get chat, not speech. Check meeting settings or IT before you blame Copilot.
- Recap is not minutes. You still own names, owners, and numbers.
- "What did X say" is only as good as the transcript. If you were not there, say so in the send.
- Do not paste a recap of a confidential meeting into a wider channel.

What does Teams Copilot need in order to recap what was said out loud?
No transcript, no spoken content. Recap still needs your check on owners and numbers.
Do this in Copilot
Open one meeting from this week. Note: transcript on or off. If on, run recap and mark one invented owner or number. If off, write that Copilot cannot hear the room.
Run in the Teams meeting recap if transcription was on. If not, paste only the chat thread into Copilot Chat and say so.
Recap with uncertainty flags
Summarize this meeting. Transcription was: [ON / OFF / I DO NOT KNOW]. List: (1) decisions, (2) open questions, (3) action items with owners and deadlines only if they were stated. If an owner or date was not said, write [Not stated]. Do not invent attendees who did not speak. Flag anything that sounds specific but might be a guess. I will verify before I forward this.
